Whether it's a king, twin, double, or queen bed size, different manufacturers interpret the standard bed and mattress sizes and dimensions differently as per the comfort and the cost.

Twin Bed

The word 'twin bed' brings in the image of two beds (twins) but it is usually "one of a pair of identical beds". It is preferred for a children's room or rooms with multiple occupants.
A twin bed is commonly used by kids, and is the first bed most of the kids get after switching from the crib or toddler bed. In small bedrooms where space is less, a twin bed works perfectly as it is narrow and can easily fit in.
A twin bed is extremely useful in those houses where children or even couples may have sleeping problems or varying requirements regarding the firmness of the mattress.
Twin beds come in handy as each member can purchase the mattress of his choice and push the beds together to sleep side by side. Also, the bed can be stacked and turned into a bunk bed.

Twin Bed Mattresses

A mattress is a mat or pad, placed on top of a bed, upon which we sleep or lie. The term mattress comes from Arabic words meaning "to throw" and "place where something is thrown" or "mat, cushion."
A twin bed mattress usually comprises either an inner spring core or materials including latex, viscoelastic, or other polyurethane-type foams. It can also be filled with air or water, or a collection of natural fibers, like futons.
Depending on the manufacturer, the quality of the bedding, and the robustness of use, will determine the life span of the mattress. However, on an average, a good quality innerspring mattress should last between 7 and 10 years and the memory foam and latex models should last somewhere between 10 and 20 years.
