Staying Healthy While Traveling for the Holidays

During the holidays, airports and highways are packed with people traveling, trying to get to their families to enjoy the holiday season. However, many of these holidays occur during the peak of cold and flu season, so it is a time when many people find that they are coming down with illnesses while or shortly after traveling.

Get Enough Sleep

Many people do not get the amount of sleep that is required on a nightly basis. This can lead to heart disease, weight gain and other health issues. It can also lower the immune system. Make sure you have enough time to get the sleep you need. Getting the seven to nine hours recommended nightly can help keep you feeling refreshed.

Exercise When You Can

Whether you are flying or driving, it is important to get out and stretch your legs when you can. Exercise can help keep your body in good shape year round, but it can be particularly helpful when traveling. A quick walk around a rest stop or even around an airport can be helpful for keeping your body healthy and maintaining a healthy immune system.

Find Immune Boosting Supplements

There are many supplements out there that can help boost your immunity. For example, Vitamin C can help reduce the amount of days you have a cold, while other lectin free supplements may be able to prevent you from getting one at all, or reduce the severity of your symptoms.

Stay Hydrated

Drinking water is an important part of keeping the body healthy. Most people don't get enough water, and dehydration can cause a myriad of symptoms. Aim for drinking a minimum of eight glasses of water per day, or more if you can help it. Of course, you want to pace yourself, so you aren't needing to pull over every twenty minutes to empty your bladder.
