One of the most important things when it comes to tooth extraction aftercare is to change one's diet. As one is likely to experience pain as well as swelling after removing the tooth, consuming normal foods can be a little difficult as the area becomes very tender.
Moreover, eating solid or hard food can give rise to bleeding and can lengthen the recovery process. Hence, it is important to consume only tender foods. Soft Foods Post a Dental Extraction

Soft foods can be explained as the ones that are easy to digest. In other words, these are foods that do not require you to chew and can be swallowed directly. Although many people often do not feel like eating anything after getting their tooth removed, not eating anything is not good for health.
Hence, it is extremely crucial to eat some nutritious soft foods. Here, you will find some examples of foods that you can eat after having your tooth removed.
  • One of the best and the most commonly consumed foods is clear soup. As soups contain thick liquid, it is actually easy to swallow it. If you are adding vegetables or chicken to it, make sure that you blend them completely in the blender before making the soup.
  • Another option when it comes to soft foods is milkshake, as it is very easy to consume. However, see to it that you do not sip the milkshake with a straw. Instead, it is better to use a spoon or drink directly from the glass.
  • Apart from milkshake, another food that is recommended by doctors is ice cream. Other than the regular ice cream, the one which will be easier to eat is the soft serve. Just like ice cream, you can also opt for instant puddings after getting your teeth extracted. However, avoid having cone ice creams.
  • Mashed potatoes is another option when it comes to soft foods. If you find mashed potatoes too bland, you can add butter, sour cream, etc., to make it more palatable. Other than this, scrambled eggs are also something that can be easily consumed.
  • Apart from the above mentioned foods, some other soft foods that you can consume are home-cooked broth, fruit juices, applesauce, oatmeal, frozen yogurt, milk, smoothies, coffee, jello, ground beef, broiled fish, cottage cheese, etc. Baby foods are also a good choice.

Foods to be Avoided

Now, let us understand the things that you should avoid during this period. As the area from where the tooth was extracted would be very tender, one must avoid foods that will cause any kind of irritation. Spicy dishes definitely top the list of foods that one should not consume after taking off the teeth.
Apart from this, avoid eating crunchy or hard foods, like cookies, apples, etc.; basically foods that you will have to chew before swallowing. Another thing that you have to avoid is the intake of acidic foods.
Experts are of the opinion that people who have undergone oral surgery or dental extraction process should avoid carbonated drinks for the next few weeks. Moreover, it is also important to avoid smoking or consuming alcohol for some days, as this can cause infections, thus prolonging the healing process.
Apart from the list of soft foods that are given above, you can consume anything that is soft, easy to chew, and non-acidic. If you still have doubts about the things that you should eat and those which you should avoid, your dentist will surely be able to clear all your queries.
