We all know that brushing teeth, in the morning, after every meal, and before going to bed, is an important part of dental care. But not all store-bought toothpastes can help you achieve healthy and pearly white teeth. If you'd like to give homemade toothpastes a try, take a look at the following recipes to make one yourself.

Peppermint-flavored Toothpaste

Ingredients
  • Peppermint or wintergreen oil, 15 drops
  • Baking soda, 6 teaspoons
  • Glycerin, 4 teaspoons
  • Salt, ⅓ teaspoon
Procedure

In a small bowl, mix all the ingredients thoroughly. Make sure the consistency is like a regular toothpaste and check the flavor as well. If it is a bit bitter, add few more drops of peppermint or wintergreen in it. Store in an air-tight container, and open only when you need to use it.

Orange―Peppermint-flavored Toothpaste

Ingredients
  • Stevia, as a sweetener
  • Castile liquid soap, 1 tablespoon
  • Orange and peppermint essential oil, 10 drops each
  • Coconut oil, 5 tablespoons
  • Olive oil, 1 tablespoon
  • Procedure
The reason to use olive oil is because it gives the toothpaste its smooth consistency and makes it easy to use. In a bowl, combine all the ingredients and mix it with a spoon. You can also use different essential oils to mix in the recipe.

Peppermint―Spearmint-flavored Toothpaste

Ingredients
  • Spearmint oil, ¼ teaspoon
  • Sage leaves, ground, 1 teaspoon
  • Orris root, ground, ¼ cup
  • Arrowroot, ground, ¼ cup
  • Water, ¼ cup
  • Peppermint oil, ¼ teaspoon
  • Procedure
In a bowl, mix all the dry ingredients and stir with a spoon. Now add water till you get a thick toothpaste consistency. Place in an air-tight container and store at room temperature. You can also use ½ teaspoon of cinnamon oil and ½ teaspoon of clove oil instead of peppermint and spearmint, respectively.

Vanilla-flavored Toothpaste

Ingredients
  • Honey, 2 tablespoons
  • Orris root, ground, 3 oz.
  • Rose geranium oil, 15 drops
  • Baking powder, ½ oz.
  • Vanilla flavoring, 4 teaspoons
Procedure

In a bowl, mix all the ingredients together. Add the honey in the end, till you get the correct consistency for the paste. Store in an air-tight container, and scoop it out with a clean Popsicle stick every time you want to apply the toothpaste. Use a new Popsicle stick for every use.
