You must perform a quality check before buying a latex mattress. Dunlop and Talalay are preferred equally by customers as their mattresses are of premium quality. Dunlop manufactures supportive and firm latex for natural mattresses while Talalay manufactures them in a more contemporary way.

Choosing a Latex Mattress

> There are basically two types of latex mattresses, viz., natural and synthetic. Natural latex mattresses are 100% pure as they are made from natural products. They are hypoallergenic and anti bacterial.
Good quality brands are tick, mold and mite resistant. Natural latex is made from rubber tree sap. Synthetic latex mattresses are made artificially (from chemical processes and are petroleum-based), though they externally look similar to natural mattresses.
Also known as blend mattresses, synthetic mattresses are cheaper than natural ones. They are vulnerable to insect infestation and may cause allergy to sensitive skin. Some latex mattress manufacturers use fillers which are tiny particles applied to both natural and synthetic latex mattresses. Purchase heat-resistant varieties if you live in a tropical area.
> Look for mattresses that have pincore holes in them. The holes improve air circulation and keep the mattress soft, cushioned and cozy. Presence of pinholes also reduces its friction with your body, thereby preventing wear and tear of the fabric. Purchase mattresses that have good density of holes.
The best feature of a latex mattress is its durability. Latex is itself an immensely durable material that lasts for 20 years or more. Therefore, one should invest on the best product since one can enjoy its benefits for such a long period.
Furthermore, when you sleep on the mattress, you can very well feel your body weight getting evenly distributed.
> Latex mattresses have ILD (Impression Load Deflection) numbers in them. It's a value that determines how soft or how firm the mattress is. A standard mattress will have ILD rating within the range 24-30. If you are looking for a firm mattress then you have to go for higher ILD values ranging between 34-36. Soft mattresses have ILD values between 19-21.
Selecting a medium-firm mattress that provides the much-needed luxury and comfort is recommended. Excessively soft and cushy mattresses give rise to back problems after a certain time.
